Oil Cleansing – Part 2 and a March resolution

I am 2 weeks into oil cleansing and I love it. I love the ritual. Cleansing and moisturizing with oils has made me really enjoy my skin care routine for the first time in my life cleaning my skin has become something I like to do, instead of something I have to do.

Today I wanted to share my daily face photos here today but with our impromptu trip to San Antonio and Austin this week I forgot to finish taking them. Regardless, while we were in San Antonio the only make up I had to wear was eye liner and mascara because my skin looked that good! I had one spot on my forehead that was healing and that was it. I couldn’t believe it.

No make up or digital skin clearing here.

At the tail end of last week I changed my routine. I cut out the morning honey cleansing as it made my face red and weird throughout the day. Some people have had wonderful results with the honey cleansing (check out votavitamea) so I may try it again in the future once I get my current situation under control. So now in the morning I splash some water on my face, dry it completely and then use the facial oil. I also decided to try using less facial oil in the morning so I changed the recipe to 2 drops jojoba, 1 drop vitamin e, and 2-3 drops tea tree oil. Again, if your looking to start using a more natural way to cleanse your skin, work your way up slowly when using tea tree oil as it can burn your skin. While I find it to be a wonderful natural cure for my acne I would never slather this shit all over my face undiluted.

I have still used the same evening routine, oil cleansing with only evoo (directions found here) and then I apply a more generous recipe of the facial oil (3-4 drops jojoba, 1 drop vitamin e, and 3-4 drops of tea tree oil). With this routine my skin looks and feels moisturized and healthy even if I have a little break out here or there.

And I think any breakout I have right now is my own fault. The water at our hotel was really hard in San Antonio, so it completely dried out my skin. When we got home I went over my skin with a fine tooth comb and went on a picking and squeezing binge. With how clear my skin was on our trip and with my last little binge I can now see that any red mark on my face is my own doing. When I was using traditional cleansers it always seemed to benefit me to get black heads out before they turned into full blown pimples. With oil cleansing I am learning that I need to keep my fingers away from my face and just let the cleansing do the work. So as a March resolution I am going to try my hardest to leave my face alone.

So this way we can compare how my face looks next month. And A quick note on traveling with the OCM. I loved it. At first I thought it would be cumbersome and an annoyance to have to drag all of my clunky bottles around as I haven’t had a chance to buy cute little bottles yet. But with the way the water dried my skin out, I was happy to be able to put on my facial oil knowing that I wasn’t going to wake up with a million little pimples like I did when I would use regular lotion on my face. Also the evoo took my eye make up right off. No raccoon eyes in the morning either, it was fantastic.

So my goal for this week is to hit the craft and hobby stores to find bottles for all of my concoctions. I currently mix the facial oil in my hand and I think when I wasn’t being particularly careful that some of the undiluted tea tree oil snuck between my fingers and burned my skin. I noticed how my fingers were on fire one night when I started mixing the oils and looked at the back of my hand and sure enough in between my pink and ring finger there was a burnt patch (it looks like really bad eczema). I will post again in 2 weeks with an update a month into the oil cleansing. Are you looking into this method of skin care?
